Introduced in 1957 as a more accessible alternative to the M3. Features 0.72x viewfinder with 35/50/90mm frame lines—the first M to support 35mm lenses natively. Self-resetting frame counter and single-stroke advance. Produced until 1967 with approximately 85,000 units made.
