Leica brought the M rangefinder into the digital era with the M8 in 2006, then achieved full-frame with the M9's 18MP CCD sensor in 2009. The M (Typ 240) introduced CMOS technology, live view, and video. Current models—the M10 series and M11—match film M body dimensions while housing sensors up to 60MP. The dedicated Monochrom variants capture true black-and-white images without a color filter array. Throughout, the rangefinder focusing system, M-mount compatibility, and deliberate manual operation remain unchanged.
